Pottery

The pottery in the Gallery is either porcelain (pure white clay) or stoneware (off white to black clay). The 4 potters represented either throw their pots on a wheel or hand build their work by coiling (making pots with ropes of clay) or building with rolled out slabs of clay. Underglaze painting, silk screening, stenciling, image transfers, sprigging (adding relief designs) and glaze on glaze are some of the design techniques seen on their work.
