Patricia Carlson

Fine Jewelry

A woman wearing glasses and a light green fleece jacket is looking down and working with her hands, possibly on a craft or small project, in a softly lit indoor setting.

Patricia Carlson is a maker. She learned knitting, embroidery, and sewing from her mother, and she taught herself how to crochet in middle school. She learned to weave and dye with plants in Sweden. She also took her first metals class in Sweden, and continued her education by taking workshops all over the U.S. Her interest led her to enroll in metalsmithing classes at UAF. Patricia earned her BFA in Jewelry and metalsmithing in 2013 and has coordinated workshops for the Alaska Metal Arts Guild for many years. She currently teaches jewelry and metalsmithing at UAF.

Patricia loves fusing, hammering, fabricating, and forging nonferrous metals. She also enjoys cutting cabochons and setting stones. Her inspirations are nature and all its fascinating forms. Patricia seeks to represent Alaska’s natural beauty in her work. She enjoys making jewelry pieces for both everyday wear and fancy occasions.
