Echoes – Brianna Scott Waggoner
Echoes explores the quiet power and impermanence of Alaska’s wilderness. Through my oil paintings, I capture fleeting encounters—auroras stretching above forest roads, salmon igniting in their spawning flame, the solemn stillness of wildlife in their element. Each piece reflects the interconnectedness between land, creature, and season, offering not just images, but impressions—echoes of a place shaped by time, memory, and resilience.
Biography:
Born in Michigan, my journey has taken me across the country—working in fish hatcheries, raising salmon and trout, and living alongside the waters and landscapes that now shape my art. These experiences have not only deepened my scientific understanding of the natural world but profoundly influenced how I see and represent it. Each painting begins with a photograph from my own adventures, then evolves to oil on canvas, a visual memory—sharing the feeling of being there in person. My work blends technical knowledge with emotional connection, aiming to capture the beauty and resilience of the places and wildlife I’ve come to know intimately. Now based in Alaska—temporarily on Baranof island, now permanently in Fairbanks—I continue to paint as a way of documenting and honoring these experiences
