Hilda Melchior
Jewelry & Sculpture

With whimsey in her sculptures, color in her jewelry, and a fascination with faces, Hilda
has explored the use of many materials as well as traditional metals for her work. Her
degree in art was at San Diego State, with an emphasis on 3-dimensional art. Over the
years Hilda has taken workshops to explore new techniques. She is a member of the
Alaska Metal Arts Guild is a group of metal artists from all around Alaska.
Many of the influences of her work are from her travels and her time living in a native
village on the north coast of Alaska. She now lives in the woods outside Fairbanks
with a view of the mountains between the tall spruce. Forty years ago she and her
husband, with two sons, built a tiny dry cabin with no electricity. Like a vine, the home
has grown and grown, and now she has space, and utilities for a good size studio
where she has fun creating “things”. She hopes you enjoy her “things”.
