A Tribute to Trees – Margaret Donat
I am fascinated with trees for so many reasons. I love their grace and drama, their provocative shadows, and their array of shapes and sizes. Trees are figurative and remind me of people – dancing, conversing, hugging, connecting and holding each other up. Many are graceful and lithe, some are short and robust, others gnarly and old. Each one is unique creating beautiful patterns and endless textures which inspire me.
In this show I used my watercolor background to create textural paintings in glass. Most of the artworks began with a brushed or poured under painting. Then I added layers of glass relief, firing one layer at a time in a kiln, allowing me to adjust the heat for different effects.
